New Dental Hygiene Clinic open at 111 N. Genesee St., Waukegan

Cutting a blue ribbon decorated with dental floss, College of Lake County trustees officially dedicated a new dental hygiene clinic on June 23. The clinic, located at 111 N. Genesee St. on the Lakeshore Campus in Waukegan, replaces a temporary facility at 1 N. Genesee St.

CLC President Jerry Weber praised the contributions of all those involved in creating a “wonderful learning facility” for the college’s dental hygiene students, particularly citing State Rep. Eddie Washington, who assisted in securing state funding for installation of an elevator associated with the project, and the Chicago Dental Society, which contributed $135,000 for equipment when the temporary clinic was opened at Lakeshore in 2006.

Board of Trustees Chairman Philip Carrigan praised the remodeling project as providing an “unparalleled facility” offering an important community resource through its low-cost dental hygiene services.

The new 10,000-square-foot clinic serves as a modern, well-equipped learning laboratory for students in CLC’s dental hygiene program and provides low-cost dental hygiene care for the community. Since the clinic opened in 2006, more than 2,500 patients have received free or low-cost oral health services including check-ups, cleanings, X-rays, sealants and referrals under the supervision of an on-site dentist. A $15 charge covers all dental hygiene services.

Services are free to CLC staff and students with a college ID. To make an appointment, call (847) 543-2172.
