Learn to be a Spanish interpreter!

To meet the growing demand for qualified interpreters, the Workforce and Professional Development Institute at the College of Lake County offers a Certified Spanish Interpreter Training program. The program includes four courses that emphasize interpretation techniques in the medical, educational and legal fields. Two of the four courses will be offered this fall.

Spanish Interpreter Medical I (beginning Sept. 26) and Spanish Interpreter Medical II (beginning Nov. 7) incorporate role play and scripts to simulate common healthcare situations such as intake, emergency room procedures, baseline nursing, common ailments, post discharge care, hospice and after life care. Participants may enroll in each five-week class at a cost of $549 per course. The courses are held at the Grayslake campus on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The courses are scheduled so that students may earn a certification in one year. Students may begin the program with any one of the four courses; additional courses will be offered in upcoming semesters. For more information, call (847) 543-2615 or visit WPDI.

The Continuing Professional Development department of CLC’s Workforce and Professional Development Institute (WPDI) also offers courses in computers, project management, lean six sigma, hospitality, grant writing skills, security officer basic, highway flagger, strategic sales, human resources, Spanish language and interpreter, real estate, teacher education and event planning.
