Security Officer Basic Training, offered Monday through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both Oct. 12-15 and Nov. 9-12, prepares you for a career in the security field as an unarmed security guard upon successful completion of the course. You will earn state certification and be eligible for employment with a certified agency under the Illinois Private Detective, Private Security and Private Alarm Act. You will be eligible to apply for your PERC Card (Permanent Employee Registration Card) upon successful completion. The cost is $189.
Security Officer Firearm Training, offered Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both Oct. 19-22 and Nov. 16-19, is available to those who have completed the 20-hour basic security officer course or possess a current PERC card. This course trains you for employment as an armed security guard. You will learn the legal use of firearms, liability while armed, take a firearms safety test and qualify at the firing range. A current Illinois Firearm Identification Card (FOID) is mandatory to receive firearms training. The cost is $249.
Firearm Re-Qualification, offered Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both Oct. 21-22 and Nov. 18-19, enables you to complete your annual eight-hour security officer weapon re-qualification per Illinois State requirements. The course reviews liability while armed, firearms safety and maintenance, range procedures and firearm qualification. Qualification with an additional weapon is $35 each. The course will be held at a local firing range and costs $89.
