Nov. 15 CLC Jazz Ensembles concert with guest trumpeter, Bob Ojeda

The CLC Monday Night Jazz Ensemble welcomes guest artist/trumpeter Bob Ojeda on Nov. 15.

The College of Lake County jazz ensembles will present a guest artist concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15 featuring trumpeter Bob Ojeda.

Opening the concert will be four selections by the Tuesday Night Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dave Hibbard. The Monday Night Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Michael Flack, will play “Sweet Georgia Brown,” arranged by Sammy Nestico and “After You’ve Gone,” arranged by Bill Holman.

Guest artist and trumpet player Bob Ojeda will join the Monday Night Jazz in a program to be selected from the following compositions: “From One To Another” by Thad Jones and “Two Different Days” by Tom Garling, Ojeda’s composition, “Uptown” and three of his own arrangements, “Thads On Clark,” “Cool Blues” and “After Hours.”

Trumpeter and composer/arranger Bob Ojeda is a lifetime Chicagoan who has performed with many jazz giants as well as some of the finest jazz vocalists. After private study with Bill Russo and classes at the Chicago Conservatory of Music, he toured with and composed for the big bands of Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Lionel Hampton and Bill Holman. As an instrumentalist, Ojeda has performed with such luminaries as Quincy Jones, Sarah Vaughn, Rosemary Clooney, Frank Sinatra, Carmen McRae, Joe Williams and Tony Bennett.

In 1985, Ojeda joined the Count Basie Orchestra and played with them for 16 years. He is currently freelancing, working a variety of gigs with bands large and small as well as arranging for vocalists. His latest project is a suite that celebrates President Barack Obama’s life, which was commissioned by the Illinois Bar Association for an anniversary event this year.

Tickets are $7 general admission and $5 for CLC staff and students/Alumni Association members/Seniors 65-plus. Prices include a $1 JLC facility fee.

CLC Music Department facts
The College of Lake County Music Department’s reputation and audience continue to grow. During 2008-09, the CLC Music Department presented 12 concerts in the Mainstage Theatre, which had a total attendance of 3,352. Community members are invited to participate in CLC Music Department ensembles or to take private lessons for college credit or personal enrichment. The CLC Music Department offers 59 courses leading to three different degrees: Associate in Music, Associate in Fine Arts in music performance and Associate in Fine Arts in music education.
