A large cast of actors ranging from age 8 to 80 is needed for the College of Lake County Theatre department’s fall production of “Street Scene,” a Pulitzer Prize-winning play. Auditions start at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 18 and 19 in the Studio Theatre, James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts, Grayslake Campus. Actors need attend only one audition night.

The show will be directed by Thomas B. Mitchell, who will retire in December after 30 years with the Theatre department.

“Since this is the last CLC production I will direct, I hope that alumni and past performers will come audition for the many small roles in this production,” Mitchell said.

Actors should prepare a two-minute monologue from any dramatic play. Call backs are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m. Rehearsals will begin Oct. 2 and will generally run Monday through Thursday, 6:30-10 p.m. Performances are Nov. 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18.

“Street Scene” scripts are available at the circulation desk at the Grayslake Campus Library for in-library reading.

Poster of a Street SceneThe play by Elmer Rice, set entirely on the front stoop of an apartment building and surrounding street, explores the comedy and tragedy of daily life through the experiences of working class families and new immigrants. Fidelity, relationships, communication, discrimination and identity are all explored in this outstanding stage classic. A Broadway success and winner of the Pulitzer Prize, “Street Scene” teems with humanity and offers a bold exploration of American society.
