Trustee Dr. Philip Carrigan resigns from the board

After the Board of Trustees met in closed session on Sept. 19, Board Chair Richard A. Anderson announced that the board had accepted the resignation of Trustee Dr. Philip J. Carrigan for personal reasons.

Dr. Carrigan was elected for a six-year term on April 9, 2013, and previously served on the board from 2005-2011. The trustees have 60 days to appoint a replacement for his term, which runs until April 2019. At the Oct. 24 meeting, the board will recognize Dr. Carrigan for his long and distinguished service to the college and announce plans to replace him.

Anderson said that Carrigan has been a dedicated supporter of CLC’s students, a strong advocate for the Waukegan community and a person of extreme integrity. “Dr. Carrigan was always a rock on this board,” said Anderson. “We’re going to miss him.”

Clean audit unveiled

External auditors gave the College of Lake County’s Fiscal Year 2017 financial statements an unmodified (“clean”) opinion. Representatives from RMS LLP US reported on the audit at the Sept. 19 CLC Board of Trustees meeting. The audit included a review of basic financial statements, grants from the Illinois Community College Board, internal controls, credit hour reporting and the CLC Foundation as well as the clarity and transparency of financial records.

“Being financially accountable and transparent in our practices is a top priority for the Board of Trustees,” said Anderson. “We are very pleased to again receive a clean audit, and going forward, will manage ourselves carefully, because there is still concern with the state’s financial situation.”

Interim President Dr. Rich Haney said, “Faculty and staff across the college are holding down costs, and we will continue to be fiscally conservative.”

The board approved the audit report and authorized the college to file it with the Illinois Community College Board and appropriate federal agencies.
