The 11th annual College of Lake County Memorial Day ceremony will take place at noon Friday, May 25 in the A Wing Auditorium (Room A011) at the Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St. The public is invited to attend.

The keynote speaker will be Allen J. Lynch ‘78, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor. He was cited for “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity” at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty, according to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.

After the war, Lynch settled in Gurnee and worked for the federal Department of Veterans Affairs as an advocate of benefits for disabled veterans. He later served as chief of the Illinois attorney general's Veterans Rights Photo of Memorial Day bugler Jim ReynoldsBureau until his retirement in 2005. He also created the nonprofit Allen J. Lynch Medal of Honor Veterans Foundation, which provides stop-gap emergency funding for veterans and their families. Lynch continues to volunteer for the nonprofit Vietnam Veterans of America and is a liaison for the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.

Other speakers include Congressman Brad Schneider, who will speak in honor of our Gold Star Families, and Richard A. Anderson, Army veteran and chair of the CLC Board of Trustees. The master of ceremonies will be Andrew Tangen, an Afghan War veteran and superintendent of the Lake County Veterans Assistance Commission. Other speakers include Angel Andrade, vice president of CLC’s Student Veterans Club and Joe Bochantin, CLC’s veteran student services coordinator. Jim Reynolds (pictured), a bugler from the nonprofit Bugles Across America, will play taps. The color guard will be the Marine Corps League of Lake County, Detachment 801. CLC musicians will provide music.

Following the ceremony will be a luncheon for veterans in Room A013.
