According to the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, College of Lake County ranks number two among community colleges in the Midwest! Having earned five national and regional "green" awards in the last 18 months, CLC has infused sustainability into its curriculum. What’s good for the environment also is good business sense and allows cost savings for our energy-efficient buildings, a geothermal heat exchange system, green roofs and a stormwater management system. Environmental Club member Dan Buranosky, a business major, is using statistics to measure students' recycling habits. Mentored by David Husemoller, CLC Sustainability Manager, Dan is also working on a bike-share program.

Since 2011, Kim Rostello, CLC faculty and Blackhawks exercise physiologist consultant, has encouraged students enrolled in our Health and Wellness Promotion program to join a fitness testing team that works with the Chicago Blackhawks. The team staffs a fitness station and assesses players to determine their hockey fitness level. As the only college that works with the Blackhawks, it's easy to understand why it has a lasting impression on CLC students.

Many are surprised to learn about the state-of-the-art facilities at the College of Lake County. The laser lab in our Science and Engineering Building is one of the newest in the country, providing exciting opportunities for those interested in the field. Students are able to harness the power of light for hundreds of applications, from modern medicine to airport security to laser light shows.

You may not think that mundane things such as bond ratings and/or financial standings would have much of an impact on our students and their education, but they do. As one of only a handful of community colleges in the nation with a Aaa rating, we are able to invest heavily in our infrastructure, technology and the overall student experience. Just ask Student Trustee Hansel Lopez. When he gets together with Board Chair Richard A. Anderson, they enjoy the latest renovations to one of our many student spaces. And everyone is going to be impressed with the new state-of-the-art Science and Engineering building opening this Spring Semester. CLC is the only school in Illinois where firefighter students actually work as interns, gaining real-world
experience. Students work with the Grayslake Fire Protection District’s three firehouses, one of which is on our CLC campus.
