Hispanic Serving Institutions Grant

Northeastern Illinois University, in partnership with the College of Lake County, was awarded a competitive grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Title V: Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program. The total grant award was $3,487,048.00. The College of Lake County’s portion of the award is $1,317,041.00 over the life of the five-year grant cycle which began in 2009.

Grant monies are used by NEIU and CLC to partner in a range of activities designed to increase student academic success, retention, transfer rates, and graduation rates at both institutions. Activities at CLC include: offering increased academic support and other services to students, visits to transfer institutions, workshops in English and Spanish, increasing services for veterans, faculty development activities aimed at encouraging faculty to integrate more problem-based and active learning into the curriculum, and working with NEIU to develop increased articulation programs.

LGBTQ Resource Center

The overall goals of the LGBTQ Resource Center are to encourage pride and unity among LGBTQ students and to contribute toward building an inclusive campus community that is accepting and welcoming of the LGBTQ community. By offering educational programs and support services, the center works to promote social justice, equal opportunity and the free expression of individual identity.

Multicultural Student Center

The Multicultural Student Center houses 11 multicultural clubs and provides a variety of services to help students from all backgrounds succeed and feel welcome at CLC.
