Green Initiatives at CLC

Sustainable CLC

The College of Lake County is proud to receive the Gold level award from the Illinois Campus Sustainability Compact, for integrating sustainability into its daily operations and transforming its culture. CLC seeks to be a leader in using best practices for green building and development, not only to conserve resources, but also to create a living laboratory for student and community learning. CLC is committed to teaching its students sustainability-related job skills for a changing world.

Our sustainability initiatives are guided by a Sustainability Plan that establishes priorities, action items, and performance metrics for campus-focused projects, curriculum development, and regional collaborations. Priorities and action items are separated into the three intersecting spheres of community college sustainability: Greening Our Campus, Greening Our Curriculum, and Greening Our Community.

Greening Our Campus

Learn what we are doing to conserve energy, water, building materials and landscapes on all three campuses.

Greening Our Curriculum

Learn how we are preparing students for careers in the Green Economy.

Greening Our Community

Learn how we are working with municipal, business, and civic leaders to protect natural resources and grow the local economy to benefit the Lake County community.

CLC is a founding member of the Illinois Green Economy Network (IGEN), a consortium of the state’s 48 community colleges, which works to stimulate the Illinois green economy through green workforce training, market transformation and community outreach activities.  CLC is also a member of Community Green, the USGBC’s Center for Green Schools and the SEED Center, for Sustainability Education and Economic Development.
