We Reduce Waste at CLC

In Lake County, our landfills have limited space so we need to reduce waste from being disposed there unnecessarily. The CLC community values sustainability by reducing waste with reusing materials, recycling, and composting.

Reusing Materials

  • Reusable green "Fresh and Go" and other types of lunch containers
  • Reusable coffee cups and water bottles
  • Reusable utensils, bamboo cutlery available in the Lancer Zone

Recycling

  • Metal cans
  • Hard plastic containers
  • Glass and plastic bottles and lids
  • Paper and Cardboard
  • Mostly clean paper cups, plates and bags

Composting

Café Willow (commercial standards)

  • Food scraps: vegetables, fruit, bread, meat, and cheese
  • Unwaxed paper plates, containers, and napkins
  • Coffee grounds and filters

Composting at Home or by the Campus Farm

  • Vegetable and fruit scraps
  • Limited bread and napkins
  • Coffee grounds and filters

Disposing of Trash

  • Plastic wrappers, bags and straws*
  • Styrofoam cups and containers
  • Plastic cutlery utensils

NOTE: *Plastic bags may NOT be recycled on campus, but rather may be taken to your local grocery store for recycling

Other Items

  • Alkaline batteries are designed such that they may be disposed of in the trash
  • Facilities will take broken furniture through the proper disposal process for Obsolete Items
  • Electronics and chemical waste may not go in the trash, but rather must be disposed of separately at special locations
