Greening our Curriculum

Students encounter sustainable solutions through various activities in the classroom and experiences on campus. FY2016 and FY2017 Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) action projects demonstrate the College of Lake County’s commitment to infuse sustainability across the curriculum.

The College of Lake County is developing sustainability learning objectives and ways to identify courses with a focus on or content with sustainability. CLC is committed to equipping students with a state-of-the-art education and preparing them with skills that are growing in demand in the green economy.

Transfer degrees and career certification options:

  • Sustainability Transfer Degrees
    • Sustainability (Policy and Social Aspects) A.A.
    • Sustainability (Science and Technical Aspects) A.S.
  • Sustainable Design and Construction
    This certificate program incorporates architectural design, horticulture, construction management, HVAC and electronics/alternative energy.
  • Alternative Energy Technologies
    This certificate program provides technical instruction on wind, solar and geothermal energy sources.
  • Heating and Air Conditioning
    HVAC provides a variety of Associate degree and certificate programs with in-demand state-of-the-art training in the latest green technologies.
  • Horticulture
    This program offers a degree and certificate in sustainable agriculture and includes sustainability content in its  sustainable landscape design degree and certificate.

Professional Development

The college offers training events and workshops through the Workforce and Professional Development Institute (WPDI).

Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA)
The college partners with MREA to provide several demonstrations and training on new alternative energy technologies.

Personal Enrichment

Personal Enrichment offers classes for community members who are interested in learning more about topics such as gardening, beekeeping, homesteading, personal wellness and much more.
