College Master Plan

Implementing a planned approach to meeting CLC's future facilities needs

After a two-year development process, the College of Lake County board of trustees approved a new comprehensive campus master plan in November 2012.

"The master plan provides a conceptual framework for developing our campuses," said Trustee Richard Anderson, the then-board chairman, following the trustees' approval. "It addresses crucial needs like making repairs to our aging heating and air conditioning system on the Grayslake campus and providing new buildings to enhance services and support future enrollment growth at both the Grayslake and Lakeshore campuses."

Construction of the master plan component projects will cost $148 million, to be funded by a combination of sources-bond sales, college reserves and state funding. Components of the plan include a new science building, classroom technology upgrades, renovation of the A, B, C wings and main lobby to create a student services center and a major expansion of the Lakeshore Campus in Waukegan.

Development of the campus master plan began in 2010, following the completion of a new strategic plan. Legat Architects, of Waukegan, worked with a steering committee composed of faculty, staff and community representatives, to develop the plan.
