Dear President Peters and the Northern Illinois University Community,
On behalf of the faculty, students and staff of the College of Lake County, I wish to express our deepest sympathies over yesterday’s tragic events. As neighbors in northern Illinois, we feel a particularly close connection to NIU. Many of our students transfer to your institution, and many of our faculty and staff also are connected to the university as alumni or through friends or family members.
The next several weeks and months will be a time of grieving and healing. I hope that the students, faculty, staff and alumni of NIU can draw some consolation from the support and solidarity of the higher education community. We are a caring family with much strength to share with each other. You are not alone.
