Intercollegiate athletics and intramural recreation are an important part of student life at the College of Lake County. CLC teams compete in 13 intercollegiate sports. Women's sports include basketball, cross-country, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. Men's sports include baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, tennis and wrestling. CLC is a member of the Skyway Community College Athletic Conference and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The college is noted for its excellence and integrity in athletics. The CLC intramural and recreational programs provide a variety of activities for students, faculty and staff.

Basic Eligibility

  1. Student-Athletes must be enrolled full-time at the College of Lake County.
  2. First-year athletes must maintain a 2.00 grade point average. Second-year athletes must have earned 24 credit hours with a 2.00 GPA.
  3. Athletes must have a physical examination before any participation occurs.

    **There is a special rule that applies to part-time students.



Athletic Scholarships

The Athletic Department awards tuition waiver scholarships to student-athletes. Ask your coach or contact the Department of Athletics & Physical Activities for details.



Academic Support of Student Athletes

The College of Lake County is committed to the success of its Student-Athletes in the classroom and on the athletic field as part of each student's overall development. The ASSA includes:

  • Special new student orientation programs during the summer semeter.

  • Team meetings with the academic counselors at the beginning of each season to outline study aids, eligibility rules and available resources.

  • Grades monitored at the 4th, 8th and 12th weeks of each semester to make certain that each Student-Athlete is maintaining appropriate progress in each class he/she is enrolled.

The ASSA is a coordinated effort between the CLC Counseling Department and Athletic Department, which provides academic counselors to work with CLC's Student-Athletes. Counselors are available to meet individually with the Student-Athletes to develop specific action plans that may include:

  • Tutoring
  • Requiring study hall attendance
  • Time management
  • Services for students with special needs
  • Developing a long range education plan
  • Providing transfer information regarding four year institutions
  • Recommending additional support such as study skills seminars, test anxiety reduction and special testing
