CSCC 1 Physics Foundations (Grades 7-8)

Familiarize yourself with some of the basic concepts of physics, such as gravity and light, as well as related math concepts. Learn the relationship of space and matter; the properties of mass, velocity and time; and the effects of energy. This preparatory class lays the groundwork to help you better understand high school physics. Class fee covers all materials.

CSCC 2 Formula for Success - Math Foundations for Chemistry (Grades 7-8)

Get a head start on high school chemistry and build confidence and competency in the essential mathematics skills necessary to thrive in a high school honors and college prep chemistry course. Learn about the factor-label method as it applies to quantities (a number and a unit). Compare and contrast the properties of solids, liquids and gases and find out about the workings of significant digits. Focus on specific types of skills and, through models and demonstration examples, see how these math skills translate to chemistry problem solving. Engage in activities such as graphing, averages, percentages, factor labeling and algebra, which will emphasize the importance of mathematical concepts in problem solving. This preparatory class lays the groundwork that will help you better understand high school chemistry. Class fee covers all materials.

CSCC 10 Solve and Design an Escape Room Challenge Course: Codes, Cyphers, Puzzles (Grades 6-8)

Test your math, science, creativity and critical thinking skills by solving escape room challenges. Complete various "breakout boxes" with partners to get a feel for how these games are created. Then design your own escape room challenge course. Codes, cyphers, logic and puzzles are all part of the fun. Family members are invited to attend a portion of the last day of camp to see if they have what it takes to escape!

CSCC 12 The Science of My Senses (Grades 1-3)

How do we hear? Why do certain smells make us hungry? Why do bee stings hurt? Investigate the five senses, focusing on the science behind each. Through problem-solving activities, hands-on projects and experiments, explore how the human body works. Develop an understanding of the amazing connections between our body and our senses.

CSCC 13 Magic or Physics? You Decide (Grades 1-3)

There’s more than meets the eye! Explore Newton’s Laws of Motion, inertia, energy transfer, push and pull, force and gravity as you create a ping pong ball cannon, test magnetic fields and design marble mazes. See the link between physics and magic as you conduct these and other physics experiments.

CSCC 14 Predict, Measure, Compute - Math in Weather (Grades 1-3)

When the wind blew the hat off your head, how fast was it going? How much does the temperature change during a day? Answer questions like these and more as you make predictions, collect and graph data and tackle computational problems found in the “great outdoors". Learn about estimation, data collection, classification and patterns as you create and solve problems.

CSCC 30 Does Form Follow Function? Let's Find Out with Introduction to 3D Engineering Design (Grades 6-9)

Explore the principles of engineering design while learning the basics of solid modeling software. Create a one-of-a-kind charm, custom fidget toy or key chain. Print your final design on a 3D printer or carve on a CNC machine. Bring your own flash drive to class. Final projects will be distributed a short time after camp ends.

CSCC 42 Beyond the Sirens and Flashing Lights - Explore Law Enforcement (Grades 6-8)

If you've dreamed of a career in law enforcement, hang out with the professionals and get an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at what it's really like. Get the big picture of the functions of and the preparation required for a law enforcement career. How does technology help law enforcement personnel perform their duties? What tools and technologies are used to help keep officers and the public safe? In a safe environment become familiar with some of the tools, equipment and gear unique to this career. Learn about crime investigation, evidence processing and how law enforcement professionals work with the judicial system. Decide if you're cut out for the job. Girls are encouraged to attend!
