CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY
Associate in Applied Science (Plan 24VA)
This program prepares students to work as entry-level technicians in the civil/environmental technology industry. Job opportunities include technician–level positions in surveying, construction inspection and testing, site layout design and drafting, water/wastewater plant operators, and environmental site assessment. Employers include municipalities, water/wastewater treatment agencies, private civil/surveying firms, heavy construction material suppliers, and construction firms.
SURVEYING AND CIVIL TECHNOLOGY
Certificate (Plan 24VF)
This certificate is intended for students desiring technician level work primarily in surveying technology and civil drafting. Potential employers include civil engineering firms, surveyors, public works agencies, and construction firms. Graduates are qualified to work in surveying crews and/or working on site plans in CAD using surveying data collected from fieldwork.
AREA OF CONCENTRATION: SURVEYING
Associate in Science (Plan 11AB)
This program prepares students to work as surveyors, cartographers, photogrammetrists and surveying and mapping
technicians. For a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in Illinois, a bachelor’s degree is required, and several are accepted under the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation’s (IDFPR) definition of a related science. The A.S. Surveying degree includes all of the core requirements stipulated by IDFPR, allowing the candidate maximum flexibility in the choice of a bachelor’s program. 24 semester hours of surveying classes are also required, which may be included in the bachelor’s degree.
