Program of Study: Construction Management Technology
Academic Division: Engineering, Math & Physical Sciences
ANNOUNCEMENT
Building Construction Technology was changed to Construction Management Technology effective August, 2005.
Associate in Applied Science (Plan 24BA)
This program prepares students for careers as construction managers, building inspectors, cost estimators, and material supply specialists. Construction managers direct building projects to satisfy contract specifications and schedules. Projects include residential and commercial buildings, light industrial construction, bridges, highways and utilities. They coordinate the activities of skilled workers, supervisors, suppliers and subcontractors. They order tools and materials, inspect projects, prepare estimates, schedule projects, and prepare reports on materials used, cost and progress. Construction inspectors and building officials examine construction to ensure that standards are met. They take measurements, look for visible defects and perform tests. They may use testing equipment, keep records, utilize third party test results, and write reports. Cost estimators calculate the cost of labor and materials needed to perform services or produce goods. This information is used in making bids for contracts or determining the profitability of a construction project.
