About Health Information Technology
Health Information Technology (HIT) is a unique profession that combines facets of medicine, data management, and information technology, giving graduates the background to work in a range of health care settings. The Health Information Technology Department at CLC offers one associate degree program and two certificate options.Associate in Applied Science
Courses in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and medical science lay the foundation for the program, which focuses on collecting, maintaining, retrieving, and analyzing health information. Students also learn the legal aspects of health information, statistics, coding and reimbursement methods, and health care quality improvement techniques, as well as health records management.
To learn more, attend an information session; these are held in the Grayslake Campus at 1 p.m. on the first Wednesday of even months and at 4:30 p.m. during odd months. The meetings are approximately an hour long. Call the Division Office at (847) 543-2042 for more information.
Students requesting admission must complete the Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET) by the screening deadline. Please contact the Testing Center at (847) 543-2076 for test dates and times. And see below for an important update.
Important notice! The HOBET entrance test will NOT be utilized for health program applications after March 2010. The publisher of the test will no longer be making the test and the College will be making a decision on a replacement in the near future. In the meantime:
1. If you intend to apply for the spring 2010 2010 screening for Dental Hygiene, Health Information Technology, Medical Imagining, or Surgical Technology programs, take the HOBET test before the program's screening deadline.
2. If you do NOT intend to apply for the spring 2010 screening but may apply for screening in a subsequent year, do NOT take the HOBET test as it will not be accepted in 2011 or later. When a decision has been made regarding the replacement test, it will posted on the website and in the catalog. Return to the website frequently for more up-to-date information.
