About the Program
Associate in Arts Degree
If theatre is your love, the college offers the Associate in Arts degree. This program prepares students for transferring to a four-year theatre program or for work in professional or community theatre groups.
Careers in Theatre
Theatre graduates enter careers that include acting, directing, design, arts administration, stage management, teaching and technical theatre support. Professional opportunities are available in live stage productions as well as in television and film.
Theatre courses are approved for a seamless transfer to Illinois colleges and universities under the Illinois Articulation Initiative.
Theatre courses offered at CLC include: Introduction to Theatre, Acting I and II, Stagecraft, Directing, Stage lighting and Stage Make-up. Theatre practicum allows students to earn credit for performing in, stage managing, or working on the technical aspects of CLC productions.
The Theatre Department presents five fully mounted productions each year, including one children’s production in the fall and a musical in the summer. Each season is carefully chosen to showcase the best classical and contemporary plays as well as present a variety of theatrical genres and styles.
The transfer degree is typically completed in two years and provides the foundation for a bachelor’s degree at a 4-year institution.
