Navigation for Prerequisites:

There are several types of prerequisites that may apply to courses, and these must be met prior to enrolling. Students who attempt to enroll without having met a prerequisite will see an error message that reads "Requisites not met", and should check the course description for more information. Academic Proficiency Prerequisites in English and math are required to take many college classes. There are a number of ways for students to demonstrate they are proficient, and these are detailed in the Academic Proficiency links below. Placement tests required as prerequisites are used to determine a student's appropriate beginning course level for math, computer information technology, administrataive office systems, English-as-a-Second language and adult basic education. Tests are available free of charge at the Testing Center. Call (847)543-2076 for details. Course prerequisites are required when specific knowledge or skills are needed in order to benefit from the course, and course co-erequisites are required when the student should be enrolled in multiple courses at the same time (unless the corequisite was completed in a prior term).

Academic Proficiency

All applicants who plan to enroll in credit classes need to prove academic proficiency in English language and math (basic algebra readiness). Most classes require one or both of these proficiencies as prerequisites to enroll in the course. Proficiency can be met in a variety of ways described in the links that follow. Submit proof to the Office of Admissions and Records prior to enrolling in credit classes.

Placement Test Prerequisites

Placement tests are administered by the Testing Center located on the first floor of the Learning Resource Center on the Grayslake campus. There are no charges for these tests. Placement tests are used in math, computer information systems, English-as-a-second-language, adult basic education, and other classes. Call the Testing Center at 847-543-2076 for specific information on taking a placement test.

Course Prerequisites and Corequisites

Other CLC courses are used as prerequisites when the student should have specific knowledge or skills in order to benefit from the course. Corequisite courses are used when the student should be enrolled in specific courses at the same time. Students who have not met a course prerequisite or corequisite, but believe they possess equivalent knowledge or skills through prior coursework or other experience should contact the Academic Division Office for the course.

Department Consent

Some courses require department consent to register. Contact the Academic Division Office for the course if you wish to enroll.
