Financial Aid and Scholarship Resources for Transfer Students

Consider the cost

Transfer students should consider all the various costs associated with attending a four year university: tuition, room/board, meals, books, activity fees, parking fees, travel, etc. This will give you an idea of what type of financial resources you will need to allocate in order to successfully and smoothly complete your baccalaureate degree.

Update the FAFSA

One of the most important steps is to complete or update the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year before March 1st. The FAFSA can be updated online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Be sure to indicate the transfer school you plan on attending for your baccalaureate degree.

Begin Communication

Begin communication with the transfer school in regards to tuition assistance. You should visit the Financial Aid Office website for the 4 year institution you are planning to attend in order to get detailed financial aid and deadline information. Search for Scholarships

Consult the scholarship section of the transfer school's General Reference guide and the transfer school's Financial Aid and Scholarship websites for scholarship opportunities. (Links to the Scholarship websites at various transfer schools can be found at the bottom of this page.)

Also, be sure to research outside scholarship opportunities that may be available to you via websites such as:

• School Soup
• Scholarships.com
• Scholarship Mentor
• Federal Trade Commission (helps students recognize scholarship scams)

In addition, potential transfer students should consider joining CLC's Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) student organization if they meet the membership requirements. Many transfer schools offer special scholarships for PTK members.
