The College of Lake Math Center has online tutorial services available for mathematics students currently enrolled in CLC classes. To access these services, first review the following guidelines.
Students need to be aware of potential problems when using online tutorial services. At present, mathematical equations use many specialized symbols not available on a computer keyboard. For this reason, it may be difficult to state a question because words must be used in place of symbols. The statement of the problem may become very long and complex, and errors may be introduced when translating from symbols to words.
Since tutorial services are limited to CLC students, questions submitted by email must include the following information so enrollment can be verified. Email messages submitted without this information will not be processed:
- Student name
- Student course and section number
- Student identification number
When a question is emailed to us, under normal circumstances the sender will receive one of the following possible responses within 24 hours.
- The answer to the question.
- A request that the sender write out the question on a standard-size sheet of paper including all mathematical symbolism and any diagrams and submit it to the Math Center via fax at 847-543-2403.
- The response that the question is too complex to be dealt with via email or fax. The sender will need to come to the Math Center in order for the question to be properly addressed.
Questions submitted via email will be answered as quickly as possible but within the 24-hour time range indicated above. An instantaneous response to an email question is seldom possible and should not be expected. Questions that are submitted via fax will be dealt with using the same priorities as email messages. All Math Center services are delivered consistent with the principle that students who physically come to the Math Center have first priority for tutor help.
