Libraries & Instructional Services
The Learning Resource Center is the cultural center of the college. It is the home to the Library, Learning Assistance Center, Community Gallery of Art, Professional Development Center as well as the Testing Center and Disabled Student Services.
Named after the first chairperson of the Communication Arts, Humanities, and Fine Arts Division, the John C. Murphy Memorial Library honors one of CLC's earliest teachers and leaders with a collection of over 110,000 books and 900 periodical titles. The library is located on the second floor of the Learning Resource center. A computer lab in the reference area provides access to databases and information on CD-ROMS. Many of these databases are also accessible from off campus. Its Audiovisual Department provides students with access to over 3,000 films and videotapes, 7,000 audio products, and hundreds of other media.
The Learning Assistance Center provides tutoring and testing services to support and complement classroom instruction, including services for disabled students. The LAC also administers tests to people wishing to enroll at CLC or to earn a GED.
In the Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art, patrons can enjoy art exhibits, poetry readings, and musical recitals. Many of the activities in the gallery are sponsored by the College of Lake County Foundation. The Esper A. Peterson Reading Room provides an open, well lighted space over-looking Willow Lake for students to study, read, and have quiet conversations.
A computer lab is located in the rear of the first floor of the LRC. This lab is accessible both to CLC students and community users. One row of the lab contains assistive devices and computers for users with Special Needs.
The Professional Development Center provides professional development opportunities for the faculty and staff at the College of Lake County with a variety of workshops, activities and grant opportunities. Located in the lower level of the LRC, the Center's lab has computes and related equipment for faculty use.
