Welcome to CLC's General Education Teaching and Learning Resources Web page for students and faculty. The goal of General Education at CLC is to provide students with specific knowledge and skills in the following areas through coursework across the curriculum:
- Critical thinking

- Math/quantitative literacy
- Social and cultural awareness
- Technical and information literacy

This site begins with a section of resources for students to find help in successfully completing written, oral, reading, math, technology, and information literacy requirements for classes. Students, look below for help with writing, speech anxiety, reading strategies, math tutorials, and more.
Critical Thinking:
Critical thinking involves a number of ways to approach a question, issue, or problem, including logical reasoning, the scientific method, and mathematical reasoning. See below for sheets on those skills and on problem-solving tips.

Writing:

Speech:
If you start feeling anxious at the thought of oral presentations or speeches, counselor Dave Ross' speech anxiety workbook below can help.
Note that it includes references to relaxation tapes that aren't available now. You can replace the tapes with the information on relaxation.
Information Literacy:
Effective use of information sources is a key to success in college courses. At the College of Lake County, you will learn how to identify, evaluate, search and use information effectively for college and beyond.
