What is the Perkins Grant?

The Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, provides support services to students in career and technical education programs. Intended to increase the competitiveness of the US in the world economy by improving workers' technical skills nationwide, the Perkins Grant helps students succeed in school and complete their education.

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that by the year 2005, 65 percent of jobs will require some education beyond high school. College of Lake County students in career and occupational programs can benefit from the Perkins Grant and will find a world of career opportunities awaiting them when they finish school.

This grant provides funds to enhance the college's technical programs, recruit individuals from special populations into career programs, and assists these students with course completion. Additionally, grant funds are used to improve equipment and laboratory facilities.
