About the Program

Dr. Lance David, coordinator and instructor, introduces the program. "The automotive program is a National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation, Inc. (NATEF) certified training program that covers all aspects of the vehicle and it teaches the students to repair the cars and the fundamentals of how they operate and what's behind the repairs."

Instructors and Technicians

Dr. Lance David highlights the variety of instructors. "Many of them are working full-time technicians and they teach for us part-time in the evening. They are working on cars all day long at dealerships or independents and then they come here."

Fernando Gomez, Automotive Technology student, explains why he likes CLC's program and the instructors. "The instructors have a lot of knowledge. They are preparing me to be a technician. They have been working in the field for many years."

Dr. Lance David describes the balance between people that are professional teachers and people that are professional mechanics that are teaching. Between the two, we work together and help each other be the best teachers we can be so the students get the best experience they can get.

Michael Pickering, Automotive Technology student, shares his learning experience at CLC. "The experience has been very excellent here; it has far exceeded my best expectations. The teachers are my favorite part. They have so much knowledge and experience behind them. It really makes for a great learning experience."

State-of-the-art Facility

Fernando Gomez, Automotive Technology student, "spends time in the classroom but also has a chance to work in the lab."

Dr. Lance David features the new state-of-the-art facility. "This is our third year in it. When we talk about something in the classroom we can then go right into the shop and get the hands-on experience. That's when the light bulb goes on."

Experience and Learning

Michael Pickering, Automotive Technology student, shares his rewarding experience, "I love at the end of the day you can see right there what you've done. For me, it's very rewarding. It's a very positive and exciting experience. You've got the right people here and the right equipment. If you really push yourself to learn it will be an excellent experience."

Dr. Lance David shares his learning philosophy, "you don't learn one thing today and then use it the rest of your life, you learn how to learn today and then you use that the rest of your life."

"The automotive industry is huge. There are so many opportunities to even list them all. Most of them wind up with a job before they finish, which is one of strengths of the program. They are able to apply what they learned in class tomorrow, literally tomorrow. They come back and talk about what the did on the job and then learn more about that and so it's really a program that has a lot of flexibility and gives the students a real good head start when they do graduate."
