Investing in Opportunity
So much depends on keeping a college education accessible. For individuals, itís essential to getting the skills to land a good job and build a successful career. For employers, itís the workforce prerequisite for growing and maintaining a successful business. And, because earnings generally go up with educational attainment, itís also important to every communityís tax base.
For these reasons, and so many others, college is important to all of us. And to keep college accessible, the College of Lake County Foundation was established in 1974 as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charity. The Foundation raises funds for scholarships and to meet other institutional needs.
Scholarships: The Biggest Need
By far, scholarships receive the largest proportion of the funds raised by the Foundation.
Even though the College of Lake County strives to keep tuition as affordable as possible, there are still many students in need of help paying for college. About one in four CLC students receives some form of financial aid. In a county with an average household income of nearly $80,000, these studentsí families have an annual income of under $23,000.
The CLC Foundation is dedicated to helping students through its scholarship awards program. Last year alone, the Foundation made 857 individual scholarship awards, totaling about $500,000.
Changing Lives: A Campaign to Do More
Because many students struggle to pay even CLCís tuition, the Foundation has launched the Changing Lives campaign, challenging all of us to do more to keep the dream of a college education within reach.
