Being in choir is one of my favorite activities at CLC.  Dr. Charles Clency (a now-retired music professor and choir director) was challenging and pushed me to another level of musicianship that I didn’t know I could reach.  Jeff DeLay, my current instructor for voice lessons and choir, is extremely patient. I’m perfectionistic and hard on myself, but Jeff makes me take step back and look at things differently. He’s refreshing to work with.

I genuinely love being in the CLC Singers because the members are like family. It’s fantastic, like being on sports team, and it’s rewarding to have people who have your back. It’s not cliquey and nobody will judge if you make a mistake.

I’ve made new friends at CLC. It all comes from being friendly, reaching out to others and saying hi. At first, I thought it would be weird to attend classes with some students who are my parents’ age. But I found out that it doesn’t matter if you’re 18 or 60 years old; you still can make friends with fellow students. Older persons bring wisdom with their age, so you get a more well-rounded education as a result.

CLC is a great place to start, but at the end of each day, you go home to Mom’s cooking instead of having to make something yourself. That’s the main difference between CLC and a four-year school. Academically, it’s just as good as any other college.

My dream is to study music in London, Scotland or Ireland and become a professional singer. I’d like to write my own pieces, perform and become a recording artist. I’ve been performing in choirs since age 12, and even though I still feel jitters going on stage, it’s the most comfortable place for me.

CLC is giving me a good foundation in learning different styles of music—classical, jazz and arias. This foundation is preparing me for a four-year university.
