  • Children’s Learning Center receives $371,952 grant to supplement childcare costs for low-income students

    The Children’s Learning Center is now able to provide assistance with childcare costs to 50 low-income students per year for the next four years, thanks to a $371,952 grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant, amounting to $92,988 per year, began Oct. 1 and comes from the federal Child Care Access Means Parents in School program.

  • Prairie Voices wins first place award; five students win individual awards

    The 2017 edition of Prairie Voices, CLC’s literary arts magazine, has won first place (central division) in the Community College Humanities Association Annual Literary Magazine Contest. CLC’s magazine also won first place in 2016 and 2014. In addition, five CLC students’ work received awards.

  • CLC launches new supply chain management program

    Responding to the needs of area residents and employers, the College of Lake County has launched a supply chain management program. Funded by a grant from Grainger, a business-to-business distributor of products used to maintain, repair and operate facilities, the program consists of a 60-hour A.A.S. degree in supply chain management and two certificates.

  • Fire science technology students gain experience with local internship

    CLC is the only community college in Illinois to offer an associate degree in firefighter basic operations that includes an internship with a local fire department. And since the internship program began in August 2016, the practical, real-world experience has proven to be invaluable, say CLC’s fire science technology students.

  • Gallery of Art to present six exhibits in 2017-18

    CLC's Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art has announced its exhibit calendar for the 2017-18 season. This year’s shows will include Dan and Caroline Anderson’s Warren Mackenzie Collection of pottery, paintings by Roland Kulla and photographs by Erick Rowe as well as works by artist members of the gallery and CLC art students.

    The Theatre department’s 2017-18 season will feature “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs,” Sept. 28 through Oct. 1; “Street Scene,” Nov. 10-18; “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” Feb. 23 through March 3; “Play On! A CLC Theatre Student Showcase,” April 13-21; and the summer musical, “Cabaret,” July 20-29.

  • James Lumber Center announces 2017-18 Professional Touring Series

    Subscription tickets will be on sale from July 17 to Sept. 30 for the 21st Professional Touring Series season at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts (JLC) at the College of Lake County in Grayslake. The 2017-18 season will offer an incredibly wide array of national touring artists, performing everything from political comedy by The Capitol Steps to displays of cultural heritage featuring Mexican dance, an African circus, Japanese drumming, Irish music and more.

  • School of the Art Institute of Chicago transfer agreement yields first success

    CLC’s new Guaranteed Transfer Admission agreement with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago has yielded its first accepted student, who also received a prestigious scholarship. The two institutions signed the agreement during Fall Semester 2016, and the partnership provides CLC students the opportunity to receive guaranteed admission to the respected art school.

  • CLC and Waukegan approve agreement for safety and maintenance of downtown

    The College of Lake County Board of Trustees approved an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Waukegan at the CLC board’s Dec. 20 meeting. The agreement authorizes the college to provide improved police protection, maintenance and landscaping services for the city’s Madison Street Mall and alley properties located within the college’s Lakeshore Campus boundaries.

  • CLC receives national equity award from the American Association of Community College Trustees

    The College of Lake County has received the Charles Kennedy Equity Award from the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) for its work advancing student success and diversity among students, faculty and staff. Dr. William M. Griffin, chair of the CLC Board of Trustees, accepted the award Oct. 7 at the 47th Annual ACCT Leadership Congress in New Orleans. It is the college’s first ACCT national award.
