Latino Outreach and Success Committee

Mission

The Latino Outreach and Success Committee serves as an advisory group to help push institutional support for Latino Students & Staff. To advocate for programs, events, services, training, resources, and Spanish bilingual content.

There are six subcommittees reporting to Co-Chairs:

Exito Program (Mentoring Program)

The members of the committee are willing to mentor and guide students. Our members, listed below, are staff and faculty who have volunteered to assist you in enrolling and being a successful student at the college. Feel free to reach out to any one of them for assistance and support, or submit the Exito Program application.

Rodolfo earned a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in 1988 and Master’s degree in Educational Technology from Concordia University Chicago. He came to the United States in 1997. Rodolfo worked as a Student Retention Specialist (2000-2009) and Latino Alliance Club advisor since 2001 at the College of Lake County. He also taught and tutored students in basic mathematics (pre-college level).  The main goal of the program is to improve retention, completion and transfer at the College of Lake County.   Rodolfo is currently the Multicultural Student Center Coordinator.

Francisco Bataz’s parents are from Guerrero, Mexico and he is a first generation college graduate. Bataz has been working with Student Success programs for more than 8 years and he enjoys helping students reach their goals.  As an Academic Success Coach, he serves as a college navigator for students: helping students understand their progress in their classes, time management to balance academic and personal life, and connect students to resources, departments, and organizations. Bataz holds an Associates degree from CLC, a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Northeastern Illinois University, and a master's degree in Counseling also from Northeastern Illinois University.

Over the past nine years, Jeison has focused on helping Latino and International students acclimate and learn the language of higher education. Jeison holds an associate’s degree from CLC, a bachelor's degree in sociology from Northeastern Illinois University, and a master's degree in higher education administration also from Northeastern Illinois University.

Dr. Myra Gaytán-Morales is the Assistant Dean for Academic Services and Programs at the University Center of Lake County, where she has also served as the Director of their Waukegan facility. She has more than 17 years of experience in higher education, recruitment, retention, mentoring, management, student engagement, program development, fundraising, legislative affairs, nonprofit organization, networking and community service.  Dr. Gaytán-Morales holds an associates degree from CLC, a bachelor's degree in political science from DePaul University, a master's degree in higher education leadership from the Northeastern Illinois University, and a PhD in administration in higher education from the Illinois State University.

Family, education and serving her community have always been priorities for Sandra. Her parents understood that education was going to give Sandra more opportunities in life.  Sandra graduated from Waukegan High School and then earned a B.A. in Political Science from Loyola University. Later, she earned an M.A. in Educational Leadership in Higher Education from Northeastern Illinois University.

Salvador Rodriguez is a first-generation college graduate who came to the United States in 2002. Salvador focuses on undocumented issues and helps first-generation students to navigate the higher education system to reach their goals. Salvador holds an Associate’s degree from CLC, a bachelor's degree in Psychology and minor in Social Work from Northeastern Illinois University, and a master's degree in Educational Leadership in Higher Education from Northeastern Illinois University.
