Jill Bruellman
Instructor, ELI/TESOL/TESL

Specialties: Business English, pragmatics, pronunciation and vocabulary.

Teaching full time at CLC since: 2009; previously, she taught English as a Second Language for more than 10 years in the U.S. and Japan. During her years in Japan, Professor Bruellman worked for Sumikin-Intercom, Inc., a company that provides language instruction, interpretation and translation services. At CLC, she helped organize a 2014 conference on Common Core educational standards.

Education: B.A., Indiana University; M.A., Northeastern Illinois University.

Joyce Gatto
Instructor, English/ELI

Specialties: Teaching pronunciation.

Teaching full time at CLC since: 1999; Professor Gatto also taught English as a Second Language in for two years in Argentina, where she was director of an ESL program in a bilingual elementary school; she also has taught Italian.

Subjects taught at CLC: Academic English; Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) courses.

Education:  B.A., M.A., M.S. Ed., Indiana University.

Main goal in teaching: To help students reach their personal language goals as quickly as possible–and to enjoy the process.

Jacinta Thomas
Instructor, ELI/English

Teaching full time at CLC since: 1992; Professor Thomas also has presented seminars and conference papers on strategies for teaching English learners, a topic for which she also has published articles and book chapters.

Subjects taught at CLC: Academic English; academic reading and writing; linguistics; methods of teaching English.

Education: B.A. and M.A.: University of Madras; Ph.D., Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

What inspires me about my field: That I get to work with so many incredible human beings is, for me, an honor and a privilege. With my second language learners, I feel inspired by their enthusiasm and their determination to be successful. With my teacher trainees, I am inspired by their dedication to their students and their commitment to make a difference in the lives of their students.
