Enhance your skills or begin your career as a professional interpreter. The focus of this course is on critical concepts for interpreting in medical, legal, and community settings.

Professional Interpreter Information Sessions

Professional Development does not have any open enrollment interpreter classes scheduled at this time. If you are interested in attending a future class, please contact us at professionalworkshops@clcillinois.edu or (847) 543-2615 for information.

Course Prerequisites and Special Notes

This program is based on the "Equal Footing" Training developed by instructor Saul Arteaga and Southern Wisconsin Interpreting and Translation Services (SWITS). Equal Footing enables interpreters to meet their responsibility of placing Limited English Proficient (LEP) persons on an equal footing with those who understand English.

Students who complete all course requirements will receive a certificate of completion and will be prepared to sit for the Certified Medical Interpreter and the Certified Healthcare Interpreter national certification exams.

Note: The course will be taught in English and all students must demonstrate proof of language proficiency in English and a second language. Please contact (847) 543-2615 to receive a list of acceptable proofs. Students will be responsible for their own vocabulary development in preparation for any certification exams. Students will be required to purchase a book on the first day of class at the cost of $60.

All classes are not offered every semester.
