You can begin a new career as a professional truck driver. The U. S. Department of Labor predicts that there is a need for over 100,000 new truck drivers through 2026. The median annual wage for heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers with CDLs was $42,480 in May 2017, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Gain the knowledge and skills to prepare for and pass the State of Illinois issued Commercial Drivers License (CDL-A) exams.

  • Each 5-week daytime session is held Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Course Prerequisites and Special Notes

This 160-hour basic training course will provide students with the knowledge and skills to prepare for the state-issued Commercial Drivers License (CDL-A) exams.

Prerequisites: Students must have a valid Illinois Drivers License Class "D" or above. They may not have committed a serious traffic violation in a commercial motor vehicle within the past 12 months. Students must provide a copy of their Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) from the Secretary of State's Office prior to enrollment. Students must not have any physical limitation which affects their driving ability. Students currently on bond or parole are not eligible for the program. Because all CDL testing is conducted in English, students must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.

All classes are not offered every semester.
