Office skills certificate program continues at Southlake Campus

A new "cohort" program that allows students to complete all their coursework toward the Office Professional Certificate with the same classmates is continuing at the Southlake Campus in Vernon Hills this summer. New members can still join the cohort by enrolling in AOS 215, being offered at Southlake this summer.

The second course in the four-course sequence required for the certificate, Presentation Software (AOS 215) will be offered from June 10 to July 29. Course work will consist of a combination of online instruction and Wednesday night class sessions at Southlake.

Office Professional Certificate

The initial program consisted of four courses:

  • AOS 113—Comprehensive Word Processing (Microsoft Word)
  • CIT 111—Comprehensive Spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel)
  • AOS 118—Advanced Word Processing/Desktop Publishing (Microsoft Word/Publisher)
  • AOS 215—Presentation Software (Microsoft PowerPoint)

This program is a great way for adults to learn necessary skills to return to the work force or for current employees to earn professional growth and job advancement.

Benefits

By assembling a cohort or group of employees to work together, it is hoped we can achieve a higher than usual completion rate. Students are motivated by their peers to progress through the program. The instructor can focus on topics or examples specific to the needs of this group.

This is a very easy way for adult employees to go back to school and earn college credentials. Many will be motivated to continue on for a degree, while others will be happy to take only those courses that apply directly to their positions. All participants should walk away with a sense of accomplishment about completing this program.
