Meet the Professors

Yvonne Block
Professor Emeritus, Administrative Office Systems

Specialties: Business communication and business mathematics.

Teaching full time at CLC since: 1998; previously taught part time at CLC from 1987-98 and taught business courses in Maine High School Township District 207.

Subjects taught at CLC: Business communication, business mathematics and keyboarding.

Other professional experience: Received the Teaching Excellence award from the National Institute for Staff and Organization Development; nominee for the David Pierce Faculty Technology Award in Innovative Technology from the American Association of Community Colleges.  Serving as Partnership for College and Career Success Coordinator for the Lake County Area Vocational System, which establishes articulation agreements with Lake County high schools. Member of the Association for Business Communication, National Business Education and International Association of Administrative Professionals.

Education: B.S. and M.S., University of Wisconsin.

Main goal in teaching: Helping students develop employable skills for success in their careers; inspiring them to build on these skills and expand their learning by continuing their education.

Joseph Gehrke
Instructor, Administrative Office Systems

Specialties: Business English,  managerial communications, keyboarding.

Teaching full time at CLC since: 2004.

Subjects taught at CLC: Business English, managerial communication, business math and keyboarding.

Education: B.S., Illinois State University; M.S. Ed., Northern Illinois University.

Main goal in teaching: I want to communicate that learning is a lifelong process. There is always something new, and we can always improve ourselves. As students strengthen employment skills in our classes, they also grow through their interactions with each other. It’s exciting to facilitate that development!

Lauren LoPresti
Professor Emeritus, Administrative Office Systems

Specialties: Basic computer literacy, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and leadership development.

Teaching full time at CLC since: 1994; also taught as an adjunct at Triton College and at Oakton Community College; began teaching at Notre Dame High School for Girls in Chicago; has worked with students from high-school age to senior citizens.

Subjects taught at CLC: Computer basics, word processing, desktop publishing, administrative office procedures and presentation software, including PowerPoint.

Other professional activities: Co-facilitator of the New Faculty Institute at CLC from 2007 to 2015; active in course development, student advisement and program hiring; active member of the International Association of Administrative Professionals; training consultant and representative member on several advisory boards.

Education: B.S., DePaul University; M.S. Ed., DePaul University; M.A., Webster University.

Main goal in teaching: Preparing adults for successful employment in the business world. This means communicating the importance of lifelong learning to all students. I encourage them to choose a career that they love and be mindful that education helps them achieve their dreams. Seeing our graduates each May at commencement is a joy. I know how hard they have worked to achieve that goal.
