Associate in Arts (Plan 13AB) – Area of Concentration: Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Grades, or Secondary Education.

This option allows you to earn a general Associate in Arts degree from the College of Lake County by successfully meeting college requirements for this degree plan.

The College of Lake County is a participant in the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI), a major statewide cooperative agreement that eases the transfer process of the completed Illinois General Education Core Curriculum among participating institutions.

A passing score on the T.A.P. (Illinois Test of Academic Proficiency) OR a composite score of 22 on the ACT + Writing Exam is required for formal admission to a four-year college or university school of education. See the Early Childhood Education or Education department faculty advisor for details and information about test preparation courses offered at CLC.

Most Illinois schools of education require a minimum overall G.P.A. of 2.5+ for admission.

Refer to your transfer school of choice for specific admission guidelines. Individual schools of education (both public and private) may have different transfer requirements.

It is also very important to stay abreast of requirements and continual changes being made by the Illinois State Board of Education for teacher preparation and certification. Your department program chair or advisor is the best source of information about these important mandates.
