Secondary Education

About the Program

Secondary Education is an Associate in Arts transfer program, intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year college or university to earn a bachelor’s degree qualifying them to teach in high school. After transferring from CLC, students must select a major at their transfer institution (e.g., English, math, history, etc.), which is required for Illinois secondary school teacher certification.

The CLC Secondary Education major includes a concentration of education-focused courses.

Career Opportunities

In 2012, the median annual salary for high school teachers was $55,050, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Growth in jobs for high school teachers is projected to be slower than the average growth rate for all occupations. However, retirements of older teachers will create job openings. Demand for teachers of math and science is expected to be strongest.
