Spring 2009 Special Topics Course: Sociology Through Star Trek

CLC will once again be offering its popular class, Sociology Through Star Trek (SST 299-001) beginning Jan. 22, 2009. Sociology Through Star Trek utilizes classic sociological readings and theories to understand both Star Trek fan groups and the social themes of the various Star Trek episodes and feature films. Students will learn how sociologists discuss economic, environmental, technological, and other social concerns and the theories which help explain these issues.

Registration begins Dec. 1 and the class starts Jan. 22, running each Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. The instructor is John Tenuto, whose study of 8,036 Star Trek, Star Wars, and Superman fans from 54 nations has been featured in the documentary "The Force Among Us," on the WGN News, on Startrek.com, and on BBC Radio Ecuador. For more information, contact Tenuto at (847) 543-2537 or jtenuto@clcillinois.edu.
