Sustainability Programs


About the Program

This program offers both transfer degrees and career certification options. Students choosing the transfer option may select an Associate in Arts degree focusing on policy and social issues relating to sustainability or an Associate in Science option focusing on science and technology. The career certificate options include a Sustainable Design and Construction certificate designed to increase a working professional’s knowledge of green and sustainable design and construction. The Alternative Energy Technologies certificate is designed to provide the knowledge and skills for entry-level positions as technicians working on installation of solar, wind or geothermal energy technologies.


Career Opportunities

Jobs for wind turbine and solar photovoltaic installation technicians to grow much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 2012, the median annual salary for wind turbine technicians was $45,970; the median annual salary for solar photovoltaic installers was $37,900.


Degrees & Certificates


The transfer degree is typically completed in two years and provides the foundation for a bachelor’s degree at a 4-year institution.
