General FAQs about the APT

How much does it cost?

CLC Math and English Placement (APT) tests are available at no cost for students who have applied to CLC.

How do I sign up?

You don’t need to! The tests are available on a walk-in basis (no appointment necessary) at all three CLC campus Testing Centers. Testing hours at each campus vary throughout the year, and campus is closed on Fridays/Saturdays during summer session. Please be sure to check the web calendar at your preferred CLC Testing Center to be sure testing will be available when you plan to arrive on campus, and that you have enough time to take your Math/English Placement (APT) test(s).

How long does it take?

The exam is untimed, so you can take as much time as you need. In order to allow plenty of time to do your best, we suggest you leave a minimum of an hour for each test. You may take both tests at the same time, or one test in one sitting and the other on a different day. If you need to take only one APT test (Math or English Placement), just let Testing Center staff know which one you plan to take when you arrive in the Testing Center.

What do I need to take the test?

You’ll need a current CLC ID card or current government-issued photo ID and your CLC ID number. You may bring a pencil, or you may borrow one from us. Please note that you’ll be required to store your belongings and turn off all electronic devices during testing.

Is the test given on computer?

Yes, but VERY little computer knowledge is required to take the test. Instructions on the screen provide detailed instructions for how to navigate through the test, and Testing Center staff will be available to assist you if needed.
