The College of Lake County and Illinois State University in Normal recently signed a Guaranteed Transfer Admission agreement. CLC students who transfer to Illinois State to complete a bachelor’s degree will be admitted under the university’s Redbird Promise program, which guarantees acceptance for students planning to complete the requirements in their particular degree.
“Our university has long enjoyed a great partnership with the College of Lake County,” said Jeff Mavros, director of admissions at Illinois State University. “It’s our hope that the Redbird Promise guaranteed admission program will only strengthen this relationship further, providing an even clearer pathway for CLC students to Illinois State. We look forward to many more years of serving Lake County’s students – and keeping bright and talented students in Illinois.”
Karen Hlavin, associate vice president for Student Development at CLC, said that Illinois State is a great addition to CLC’s Guaranteed Transfer Admission program due to its academic reputation and breadth of degree programs.
“We can now offer qualified students an opportunity to plan their transfer to Illinois State several semesters in advance and to take advantage of advising from both institutions,” Hlavin said.
Mavros added that many College of Lake County students choose Illinois State to finish their bachelor’s degree. “We’re less than a three-hour drive from CLC’s Grayslake Campus, making Illinois State attractive to those students looking for a public, residential campus that offers students an away-from-home experience without being too far away,” he said. Kathryn Wells, a Gurnee resident who earned an A.A. from CLC in May, is one of 139 current Illinois State students who have transferred from CLC. “The guaranteed transfer agreement is really great news,” said Wells, who is majoring in therapeutic recreation. “At CLC, I built a strong foundation by learning skills in organization, studying and time management. Because of strong preparation at CLC, future students who transfer to ISU will prosper.”
