CLC updates security procedures, hours at Lakeshore Campus parking ramp

by Public Relations and Marketing | Published Nov 17, 2017

As part of enhanced security measures, the College of Lake County parking garage at the Lakeshore Campus in Waukegan has been enclosed and will be locked overnight, with new hours and parking procedures effective 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17.

He noted that in the last six months, the parking garage has added other security enhancements, including LED lighting, fencing and emergency call boxes. Pressing the call button accesses the CLC Police dispatcher, who quickly notifies an officer at the Lakeshore Campus. Photo: CLC Police Officer Heidi Onion (right) talks with student Blanca Gutierrez in the Lakeshore Campus parking garage on Sheridan Road.

In addition, the college moved its Police Department into a visible storefront at 128 W. Madison St., increased foot patrols and removed benches that encouraged loitering and public alcohol use. The college also approved an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Waukegan Police Department that grants jurisdictional powers to CLC Police officers in the Madison Street Mall area. “All these improvements have significantly lowered crime, resulting in a much safer and more secure downtown Waukegan campus,” Guenther said.

The four-level garage, which is accessed off North Sheridan Road, will be open from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The garage will be closed Sundays and on college holidays. Vehicles parked in the 500-space facility must display a hang tag, sticker or daily pass, which are available during business hours at the Lakeshore Campus front desk at 33. N. Genesee St. Students requiring a parking sticker must provide a printed copy of their CLC class schedule and a photo I.D. Visitors must pick up a daily parking pass.

Signs announcing the new hours have been posted in the parking garage and at Lakeshore Campus. Any vehicle left within the garage after closing hours will remain overnight and can be accessed the following college business day, Guenther said.
