Quick-Start registration event draws nearly 200 students

Nearly 200 students registered for Fall Semester classes at the College of Lake County Aug. 2 as the college hosted its first Quick-Start registration event on the Grayslake, Waukegan (Lakeshore) and Vernon Hills (Southlake) Campuses.

Besides applying for admission and registering for classes, participants spoke directly with advisors and counselors. Representatives also discussed financial aid as well as student job and internship opportunities. Participants also could enroll in the college’s adult education programs. The event was designed for working adults as well as recent high school graduates.

“The response from the public at all three campuses was outstanding,” said Erin Fowles, dean of Enrollment Services. “Bringing the student registration experience out of the individual departments and into a central location was a newPhoto of CLC staff helping a student enroll experience for both the college and the students. The event went very well, and it was energizing for both students and CLC employees.”

Offering the full enrollment experience in a single, short visit is appealing to potential students who are strapped for time or need a friendly nudge to enroll, Fowles added.

One student who found the event valuable is Tafari McKoop, a North Chicago resident. “It was really easy because I could take care of everything—applying, enrolling and setting up a payment plan—all in one stop,” said McKoop, a freshman who plans to major in either engineering, engineering technology or computer science. “Everybody was nice and inviting. I also like CLC’s Guaranteed Transfer Agreement with Northern Illinois University, where I plan to transfer after graduating from CLC.”

CLC plans to repeat Quick-Start registration events in the future.

If you weren’t able to attend the event, there still is time to register. Stop into CLC’s Welcome and One Stop Center at the Grayslake Campus, the Student Services Center at the Waukegan (Lakeshore) Campus or the Campus and Student Support Center at the Vernon Hills (Southlake) Campus. Please note: In addition to standard Monday-Friday hours, each campus will be open for registration from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on two Saturdays, Aug. 11 and 18.

Classes begin Aug. 20. For details, visit www.clcillinois.edu/fall.
