College names Richard Ammon, Ed.D. as engineering and science dean

The College of Lake County has named Richard Ammon, Ed.D., as dean of the Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences division.

Dr. Ammon (right) has more than 23 years of higher education experience. His previous positions include dean of business, management and general studies at Southwest Technical College in Wisconsin. In that role, he worked closely with local employers toPhoto of Richard Ammon develop career pathways for students transitioning from college to the workforce. Additionally, he supervised general education programing (math, physical science, communications and social science) as well as pre-college programing. The latter included basic literacy and the High School Equivalency diploma.

“I’m honored and excited to join CLC,” said Ammon. “For nearly five decades, the college has successfully prepared graduates for transfer or immediate employment. I look forward to building on that legacy.”

CLC President Lori Suddick, Ed.D., said, “We are pleased to have Richard Ammon join the college. His demonstrated experience, in higher education and engaging with employers, will be valuable to CLC’s strategic efforts to address the skilled workforce shortages in Lake County.”

Prior to working at Southwest Technical College, Ammon spent six years at Milwaukee Area Technical College, where he was the associate dean of both the health care and business divisions. In that role, he worked closely with area employers to ensure that college educational programs aligned with workforce needs.

Ammon holds an Ed.D. in educational leadership studies from West Virginia University. He also earned an M.Ed. in education, with an emphasis on business administration, from Frostburg State University. Additionally, Ammon earned a B.S. in agronomy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A U.S. Army veteran, he served as a combat medic during Operation Desert Storm.
