Board of Trustees news: Oilschlager announces retirement; Achieving the Dream membership passes

by Public Relations and Marketing | Published Dec 21, 2018

The College of Lake County Board of Trustees received confirmation Dec. 18 from Barbara D. Oilschlager, member and secretary of CLC’s Board of Trustees, that she will not be seeking re-election to the board in the April 2 election.

After three decades of serving on the board and receiving numerous awards, Oilschlager reflected on the mixed emotions regarding her upcoming retirement. “Sometimes you have to know when it’s time to retire and to move on.” With a lighthearted tone on the future outlook for the college, Oilschalger confirmed that one of the reasons for her retirement was due to CLC’s president, Lori Suddick, Ed. D., being on board since May. “Over these 30 years, I have a lot of pride and ownership in the college and I feel very comfortable leaving the institution to Dr. Suddick. I think you’re going to see some really great things happening and we are in really good hands.”

Leaving her mark on the past, present and future of CLC, Oilschlager was thanked by the board for her years of service, but her words sum up her tenure best, “Ordinary people, working together with a common purpose, achieve extraordinary results.”

Additionally at the Dec. 18 meeting, the board voted unanimously to move forward with CLC’s application for membership with the Achieving the Dream, a comprehensive non-governmental reform movement for student success. CLC President Suddick stated, “A commitment to participation in the ATD Network allows the college to be a part of a premier peer learning network and a national movement prioritizing student success. Participation in the ATD Network will allow the college to build institutional capacity to support student success and address equity gaps. Participation will be college-wide to help accelerate progress on completion and accountability goals.”
