The College of Lake County has named Sheldon Walcher, Ph.D., as dean of the Communication Arts, Humanities and Fine Arts division. In that role, he spearheaded the development of an innovative pathway to the associate of arts degree for students who previously struggled to complete it at the institution’s extension campuses. He also worked with staff to develop an early college initiative that allows high school students to complete an associate of arts degree while earning a high school diploma. In addition, Dr. Walcher assisted KCC in establishing new customer care standards as part of a broader “culture of care” initiative.
Previously, Dr. Walcher was associate dean of English and academic English as a Second Language (ESL) at the College of DuPage. His higher-education experience also includes serving as director of composition (writing programs) at Roosevelt University as well as the University of Southern Mississippi.
“I’m excited to be joining CLC at this pivotal moment in the college’s history,” said Walcher. “For five decades, CLC has been committed to providing transformative learning and cultural experiences to the residents we serve. I look forward to building on and extending that legacy!”
CLC President Dr. Lori Suddick, said, “We are pleased to have Sheldon Walcher join the college. His demonstrated experience, in strategic planning, leadership and innovative programming, are critical in CLC’s efforts to increase opportunities and community awareness in communication arts, humanities and fine arts.”
Walcher holds a Ph.D. in English (rhetoric and composition) from the University of Utah and an M.S. in higher education administration and policy from Northwestern University.
