College of Lake County President Dr. Lori Suddick, Board of Trustees Bill Griffin, Rich Anderson, Amanda Howland, Julie Shroka, Tim Powell and student trustee Alexa Waheed recently attended the Association of Community College Trustees National Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C. Along with an interesting conference, they had productive meetings and discussions with local legislators Congresswoman Lauren Underwood, Congressman Brad Schneider and Congressman Sean Casten.

They also attended the Illinois Community College Trustees Association event with Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth. They asked for support in: maintaining Pell grant funding at $6,345; allowing greater access to Pell grants for students who are in short-term workforce programs; allowing for the “second chance Pell grants” for incarcerated individuals; maintaining funding for the Perkins grant; reauthorizing the Higher Education Act; continuing competitive grant funding under the U.S. Department of Education and National Science Foundation; providing funding for veterans who come to campus with mental health issues and require additional student support services; and protecting DACA students.
