College of Lake County Police proudly wear pink patches

by Public Relations and Marketing | Published Oct 09, 2020

This October, spot flashes of bright pink patches on police uniforms at College of Lake County (CLC). Observed in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Pink Patch Project is a collaborative effort between the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs’ Association and public safety agencies across the nation. The purposes of the initiative are to both raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection and treatment.

The Pink Patch Project centers on a vibrant pink police uniform patch. During this inaugural year, CLC police officers, community service officers and telecommunicators will wear pink patches on their regular police uniforms to stimulate conversation with students, staff and community members to encourage discussion with the public about the importance of early detection and treatment in the ongoing fight against the disease. Fundraising with pink patch sales to support local organizations will start next year.CLC Police Dept wearing pink patches

“The Pink Patch Project is an incredible initiative, allowing public safety officials the opportunity to help raise awareness about breast cancer,” said CLC Sergeant John Lawson. “We’re proud to take part in the Pink Patch Project.” Both Lawson and his wife are cancer survivors.

It is estimated approximately one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. This disease can have a profound impact on the patient and her loved ones. It is a disease however that can be effectively treated with surgery, radiation therapy, hormone therapy and chemotherapy.
