The College of Lake County (CLC) Theatre department welcomes audiences back to in-person shows for the play “Eurydice” from Nov. 12-20 in the Studio Theatre of the James Lumber Center for Performing Arts (JLC), located at the Grayslake Campus. Show times are: Friday, Nov. 12 and Saturday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m.; and Thursday, Friday and Saturday Nov. 18, 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m.

“After a year of virtual productions, our students are so excited to be back onstage and performing in person; building scenery, costumes and props; and connecting with audiences,” said Craig Rich, Theatre department chair and director. “We hope our community is ready to rediscover CLC Theatre and the work our amazing students.”

Eurydice (Helen Murphy) and Orpheus (Deon Lopez)Award-winning playwright Sarah Ruhl reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus and Eurydice through the eyes of its heroine. On her wedding day, Eurydice must journey to the underworld where she reunites with her father and struggles to remember her lost love. With contemporary characters, ingenious plot twists and breathtaking visuals, this exhilarating play is a fresh look at a timeless love story.

“We’ve been wanting to produce this play for a while, and this year felt like the perfect time,” Rich said. “‘Eurydice’ explores love and loss, the power of memory and our need for connection. It’s a beautiful story—lyrical, emotional and, at times, surprisingly funny. The theatrical world that playwright Ruhl creates is mysterious and magical. It’s full of surprises, and I think it will captivate audiences.”

Tickets are $10 for the general public and $8 for CLC students and staff, teens and seniors. On Friday, Nov. 12 and Thursday, Nov. 18, tickets are buy one get one free.
